Cairns and Tablelands

I have to catch up with my posting, as we are flying to Alice Springs now. I have a time to write and hopefully I'll post it once we land in the red center. But first I have to come back to Cairns.

That was the last place scheduled for our camper trip. Driving up the East Coast of New South Wales and Queensland from Sydney to Cairns was nearly over, but it's not over yet for us. We are just half way through!

As we been told the north of Queensland, especially area of Mission Beach and Cairns it has the highest percentage of millionaires in whole Australia, and apparently they are all single ;) Ladies if you fancy an ageing millionaire and relatively quick inheritance, that's the place to go ;)

The landscape surprised me a bit as I expected some desserty flat lands and to be more dry, but what I've seen here it's green and lush mountains, savannah mixed with bush lands and farms of bananas and sugar cane. Obviously those red desserts are not here. Well I love it anyway!

Once we got to Cairns, we decided to do a small trip around the Tablelands, mountains west from Cairns. Few fellow travelers, recommended visiting Kuranda Village just 20km away from Cairns. A small, picturesque village with amazing Butterfly Sanctuary. Which we visited. This is a place where around 10 species of butterfly's are breed and take care of all year round. You can learn few very interesting things about caterpillars and butterflies. We've liked that place a lot! Also in the area there is wild life sanctuary, local markets with restaurants, few good bush walks and waterfalls. It's really nice area to visit.

Having a lunch in German Tucker (I was craving some Bratwurst mit sauerkraut und kartofelnsalad ;p) we got some intelligence about the area and interesting places worth visiting. As the weather was amazing and heat was almost unbearable (thank god for AC in the car) we decided to have a plunge in local waterfalls! Just an hour away from Kuranda you can find couple waterfalls with water holes where you can have a nice and refreshing swim. That's a really nice way of ending the day. There are some whole day trips which will take you to those waterfalls for less than a $100. It's a good fun and worth a try.

Next morning (11th of Jan) sadly we had to move out from our Awesome Casper Camper Van. For the whole trip I didn't even know what model of Toyota (Estima) it was. But car done very well we had no problems whatsoever. We covered total distance of 4143km in 26 days from Sydney to Cairns. We've covered and seen a lot but there is plenty to explore in this area. Which is giving us another reason to come back! Maybe next year? :)

But now, we are heading to Darwin!

See you there!
